Showmen have always made their money during the spring, summer and autumn….when the weather is good. The world of the fairground is also a big business.
Unlike most people showmen don’t have nine-to-five jobs. They work a lot in the evenings and at weekends, because this is when we want to go to the fair. The fairground season depends on the weather. So it starts in the spring and ends in the autumn. In winter the families repair their equipment and some have other jobs. It is also a time when they think about buying new rides and equipment. There are several companies which specialise in building fairground attractions. In the United Kingdom for instance, you have Nottingham UK and Super Rides International. The Netherlands have KMG and VEKOMA, while Huss is a famous German company. The small Italian village of Bergantino has a thriving industry. One of the Bergantino companies, the Fabbri Group, is well-known amongst showmen all over Europe. Today’s rides often cost over a million euro.
